Small Fishing Bug

Today i was fishing in my lake, and my inventory was mostly full, I only had 1 space. So I decided, right before my fish was to be caught that I would hold a string in my hand, in case I caught a 2 slot fish. It just so happened that my fishing line broke on this particular cast, So i right clicked the string I was holding, onto my fishing pole to attach the line. However, this ended up putting the line on the pole, but not actually consuming the string. I ended up with the same two strings, and one on the pole, essentially duping the string.

How was this different from simply holding a string and right-clicking a pole? That you are fishing while doing it seems immaterial.

Testing can't reproduce. Need confirmations or something more to go on.
