Barrel disappears after crash while mining

Was mining while carrying a barrel, and after the servers went down I reconnected to find it gone.
I would just like to know if this is normal for objects to disappear like that.
I was also in the middle of a mining process, with a pickaxe.

Know and reported previously. There's some bug when dropping objects in caves causing them to disappear when they shouldn't.
