Crushed by wall, mine shaft radius protecting?

I was run down by a cave-in, even though that angle was covered by the radius? Is this intentional or what? I'd like to know this for the future. Image

The radius of mine supports is relevant for the tiles that you mine out that might cause a cave-in; once one is triggered, it may very well spread inside the effective area of a mine support.

No, I mean half the tile that I mined out was protected, why did it cave in?

It's very unclear from your picture which tile it was that actually caved in.

However, just covering part of a tile with a mine-support is not a guarantee for it not caving in. To be sure, it should cover the whole tile.
