Higher quality metal axe (q55) consume a lot of stamina, chopping speed not changed (at least not noticed).

my test was a bit less high q but I stopped using it for the same reason

In my experience the difference is similar to a pickaxe, consumes stamina faster but chops trees relatively faster as well.

Source: Had to chop down 150+ trees to clear the space for my base, metal axe definitely showed a difference in speed per tree once I made it.

Edit: I believe it is an overall increased use in stamina per tree, but in exchange you chop them marginally faster. Likely more of a sidegrade than a straight upgrade.

Metal axes chop trees faster, but the quality of them does not matter.
