What I've seen, they can cross rivers that divide swamps.

Lady bugs spawn on different terrains. Dragonflies are normally confined to swamps. All animals can cross shallow water.

Absolutely sure it was in deep water? That said, flying animals (including insects) should be able to cross deep water, just not park there.

If they are indeed able to fly across deep water then that is the case, as it was flying when i caught it. It was definitely deep water.
