Can't shoot Sling/Bow on a Boat

When shooting a sling/bow from a boat, the arrow/stone just drops straight into the water.

This happens when shooting in a particular direction (North? West?) and you need to move around and shoot from another direction.

Is it due to the projectiles hitting the boat hitbox?

Can this be avoided by shifting the boat orientation with CTRL+Click?
