Ability to fight past cliffs

So I was dumb as a newbie and i decided to shoot a deer. When It came for me a hopped up a cliff it was still able to hit me. I was trying to shoot it and that's when I took damage even though it was below the cliff and I was on top.

If you dont take a few steps forward on the cliff they van still hit you since your hitbox is in attacking range.
