Quality of dried bear hide goes down?

I though drying racks did not affect the quality of my hide, however for some animal hides ( moose and bear) the quality seems to go down after drying. Hides like rabbit hide doesn't seem to be affected. Is this a known bug or...?

Never seen it. When does this happen?

Before and after screenshot would be cool. Or anything to go on.
