Stealing/Protecting Items/Justice

Postby rainstol » Tue Dec 06, 2016 2:23 am

So, obviously anyone that read my original post. I owe the devs an apology. I regret that my anger and frustration was vented in the manner I posted. Feeling helpless from being abused by others does not put one in a positive state of mind.
I am severely saddened by the responses I got from people though. I was crying out in anger, frustration and helplessness for help in understanding how it could be allowed
I looked for forum rules of conduct, but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any, so verbal abuse seems to be allowed.

Now that I'm calm I still think there are a couple bugs.
1) it is not clearly stated what a "claim" is for. I assumed that it provided protection from anyone until they had researched trespassing... etc. In my experience, it does nothing but keep your items from despawning.
-- I will acquiesce that it could be read as implied when the wiki's only mention decay. In either case, this is not in-game anywhere.
2) requirements to build items such as "palisade" have no instructions at all. It was not and still isn't build-able for me at all. I've since discerned that this is because I probably haven't made one of the required materials with my new character (they had been done with 1 or more ancestors). However this is not stated ANYWHERE in game. How can I possibly know what I need to build, when the item won't even show in the list until you've discovered all the items (even if I have them in my inventory)?
3) tracking clearly doesn't work, or it's skill based, which again, what's the point unless you are intentionally letting people get away with "griefing". For those that don't know that that term means: griefing is allowing players to cause harm or harass other players.
So clearly some items are missing. I've learned a few things, some I can't do anything about.

Lastly, any further response that isn't constructive or on topic will be considered spamming, harassment or abuse and I ask that the Devs/Forum Moderators please take appropriate action.
I rebuilt this post in hopes that it could be turned into something productive for others, in the event that changes/corrections can be made.

Welcome to Haven! Sorry about your experience, but I'd say: get used to it. Death is a part of Haven, and it's no reason to quit. Every new character you make has a better chance of surviving because you've learned from your mistakes. Honestly, I don't get how people can play a game so clearly advertised as a "permadeath grindfest murderbone simulator" and not expect either of these things.

I'm also sorry for your experience but you do have ways of protecting your stuff, I'm assuming you had a claim as you could see scents, so why did you have valuable items in cupboards and not have a palisade?

It is simply a matter of priorities, don't build too much or keep too much stuff until you get a wall up with a claim ... I understand you don't have a lot of room to keep things as a new char so you need to be smart about it, don't settle too close to other bases, try and find a cave that hasn't been mined in to build a leanto for some things and then claim it from the inside covering the entrance, build a stick fence with a gate and key across the entrance ... build your tanning tubs and drying frames in there too and work flat out on getting the leather and rope for the initial corner post. When you log out keep the leather on your char and put it back in the leanto when you continue work. Once you have a claimed palisaded enclosure then start building and hoarding items.

We have all had to learn the hard way and as Shadow says you should have learnt from your previous mistakes ... yes, it is frustrating and annoying but we are all still here because the game is worth it in the long run, you won't find such an in depth crafting and survival game anywhere near as good as this one!

I've always thought it is a shame in one way that the devs don't just do away with pvp and make it a complete crafting/survival game, pve not pvp, but, then again, the danger does actually add something to the game ... I'm undecided tbh ... it sucks when you die and imo it's even worse when you get raided and lose everything but then hopefully you come back more determined and with a smarter game plan.

I hope this game fails as bad as it has for years.

Haven isn't everyones cup of tea, granted, but if you don't learn from your mistakes it's hardly the game that has failed. :)

rainstol wrote:1 I can't protect my stuff, You say build this, build that to protect your stuff. I can't do ANY of that yet. Sure I can build a fence, but I can't lock it yet. And now that I've seen how much the devs think of their players, I doubt the locks would even protect any of it. I have a complete lack of confidence in the systems to be able to protect anything now.
2 I can't track who took my stuff (the 3 "clues" do nothing when I "track" them), this means Not only have the devs made stealing easy, they've also made any justice nearly impossible.
3 assuming I could track them there is nothing I can do about it, I can't even kill a fox yet.
4 I can't rebuild what was lost-which means I'm stuck until I do, and in the mean time all the rest of my stuff is probably stolen now as well
5 all of you (other than Amanda44) that make the gaming experience not fun.

The community isn't making the game "not fun" for you, but I would suggest farmville if you prefer to play like that or complain like the little bitch you appear to be after playing for less than 1 month and complaining about your "game time usage". People play this game for many years, to see you bitch so hard about losing whatever small ass shit you had from being a retard and dying like a fag, We see people like you join the game, die then cry for either new world or for devs to do something. You're just another 1 that will come and go, nothing contributing to the community yourself, but rather bitch at the "community" for you sucking at a game. Goodluck friend.

The devs don't owe you anything, the "community" doesn't owe you anything.
If you spent 10% of the time it took you to make this post on researching how to protect your stuff properly, you wouldn't be in this situation.
Heck, even asking a player for help on how to protect your things properly does miracles. You would be surprised how many people are willing to help you (and even sometimes give you items to boost your progress) if it wasn't for your whiny and unwilling to learn kind of attitude.

We all went through the same thing, figured it out and now enjoy the game for what it is, unforgiving and unfair as it is sometimes. No, it was not difficult, not even from day one.
Now you come here crying and with a hostile attitude expecting everyone to be in your support as if we somehow had it any easier than you have it. Spoiler alert: we didn't.

Get good, or get out.
Have a nice day.

Hey guys, calm down .... he has a right to be upset, we all were when it happened or happens to us, even at the start when we have nothing in comparison to what we all know comes later, he is a new player, he may never return but maybe we could try and help and encourage rather than flame him out of here ... :P

@ rainstol ... your anger and disappointment is not helping here, lol.

I was also maybe a little harsh, brought on by your initial tone even though I genuinely do understand it ... I hope if you did enjoy the game you do return and try again, the communtiy can be defensive as we are small and close knit, it doesn't mean everyone is actually like that here on the forum or in game ... but when you come in here raging you will always get that element crop up - they are nice guys really for the most part, honestly ... :)

Just try again and trust no-one, keep little except what you need to work with until you get defences up ... metal tools can wait, though if you had metal not sure what you were missing for a simple palisade, rope, bone glue? Things should be done in a natural progression, open up lower cost skills to get locks for example and plan your game better rather than try to forge ahead without all the skills you need. A wooden fence comes before metals or at the least before storing them unprotected ... :)

Claims and stick fences do offer some protection, I agree that a claim taking 8 hrs to be effective is not good but it was brought in to stop abuses, the devs do want ppl to play obviously and do try hard to balance the game, they introduced nidbanes to help players get some justice and palisades can't be broken without siege mechanics, it is improving in that way all the time but on the other hand he can't totally deny that play style any chances at all!

Anyway, Haven may not be for you and lots of ppl do quit when they suffer setbacks but take a few days to get over it and come back, I promise once you understand more about the game and what you need to be doing you will find it easier to set up.

Read the guides, the forum and the wiki, you learn a lot from others while doing so and it's also a place to find like minded players and get to know ppl. We are not all savages out to ruin your game. :)
