Shield armor has no effect

The shield says it has 5/2 armor class and 0/174 wear, but it never ever absorbs damage. If i'm not wearing other armor and am only wearing my shield, I will take full damage from everything. If I am wearing other armor and damage is absorbed, no wear is ever transfered to the shield. Is it broken or simply mis-labeled?

Are you using shield-up with it?

Yeah. Doesn't work with shield up, but also doesn't work with any of the others (I have tried with parry/chin up/combat meditation, haven't tried it with to arms or oak stance).
