Launcher running as background process

I tried running autohaven earlier today, and the haven icon appeared in the middle of the screen and stayed there for about ten seconds, then dissappeared and nothing else happened. After re-downloading autohaven, reinstalling java and running an antivirus scan, I was unable to solve the problem. However, I found in the task manager that the Java web launcher ran as a background process and I don't think that it did that before. Also, all of the launchers that I tried to open previously where still running in the background processes. I haven't updated anything on my PC recently, so I have no clue what could have caused it. I couldn't find any other reports that were similar.

Edit: tried several custom clients and all worked as usual, except they crashed a few seconds after I started playing, which is a regular problem of mine. I've never had an issue with the default before.

You can safely kill the Java process if you have nothing running. I've had it just hang up on me like this before. Killing it lets you go back and launch it again. No idea of a cause. It has always been random for me unless there was an actual client issue (many people were experiencing it repeatedly).

It's happened to me over 20 times today

Check any of your network monitors: firewall, antivirus, etc. Make sure they're not blocking it. I've not ran into anyone complaining of this on the forums recently, but it might be a cause. If you need it, I believe the ports Haven accesses are TCP 1871 and UDP 1870 (also HTTP, which is port 80 and shouldn't be blocked unless you're intentionally blocking web traffic.)

Have a crash report from one of them? I don't want to encourage anyone posting custom client problems in the Bugs forum, but if we have an idea of what's going on there it might help solve the overall problem.

No crash report. They just close for no apparent reason. But custom clients have never worked well for me, I've just put it down to having a really bad PC.

Search your drive for "hs_pid_err.log" If it's there, it may help.

Update: I tried launching it a minute ago and it worked without any issue.

If the process lingers you can kill it. Won't pursue this further.
