Silkmoth in study table

I had a curio from a silkmoth, like a dead chrysalis or something like that. I've put it into the study table and it became a silkmoth... Bug?

you didnt kill the cocoon so it hatched

It's not a bug and it exist since crystali heads exist. If You let that curio wait too long or put it into study window too late it will just hatch like regular cocoon and turn into moth.

I've onced enjoyed my study window being full of moths

I don't know if it's been updated for w10 or not. I didn't check edit dates or if it has even changed.

I dont' remember correctly, but You have a plenty of time to equip it, before it hatches.

also I am not sure, because I couldn't test is fully, but if two moths make it out in your study window, there will be no eggs or those will land in your inventory / under You.

Death's Head Chrysalis retains the "study" option after it's killed by selecting the "Kill" option. I tested this personally.
