Minor Bug: Axe to Shovel Stump Swap

Postby Jackwolf » Wed Jun 21, 2017 9:20 am

Not a huge deal but something that's a small inconvenience;

Wearing a tool belt with a metal shovel sitting in it, cutting down a tree with a metal axe. After chopping down the tree I go to dig up the stump - it won't auto-switch to the shovel to dig up the stump. I have space to swap the shovel in hand (one hand free while chopping).

It's hardly a bug, but it's fairly obvious it prioritizes the axe over the shovel.

i've noticed this with an axe and pick, it prioritizes the axe for mining before the pick

It also prioritizes axe over sword during fights. Extremely annoying when i aggro something and forget to de-quip axe early or get aggroed by a hostile animal, and have to waist precious seconds dumping it off me.
Total misplay.

maybe thats because they destroy stumps faster than hand and are considered as a stump-removing tool by the game too

No respectable logic or condition to select shovel by. Won't pursue.

I'm not sure what logic is missing. Target: stump, tool: shovel. Target: tree, tool: axe. Maybe the tool is selected based on action where a destroy action goes to the best "destroy" tool in the belt*. This is the only case where the target matters that I can think of, though, so not sure if a rework is called for at the moment with other things on the "to do" list as higher priority.

*edit: oops... typo. fixed to read properly.

Reason: damn typos. Someone needs to purge the gremlins from the Internet

You clearly didn't understand, I'm not comparing axe to shovel (I did compare the axe to hand, pointing that it might be considered as stump removing tool by the game), the game might use the already put in hand stump removing tool regardless of the fact if u do or don't have a better tool for the same action.
