This is actually ONLY an issue with certain Intel GPUs that don't have proper 32 bit driver support for OpenGL 2.0

Not an issue with an ATI, no matter what flavor. I don't know what funky stuff Nvidia has gotten up to handing off processing to an integrated GPU, but it's there.
Could be a driver issue, though, as there is some extra software that is installed with the Radeon drivers if you don't bother to uncheck the boxes for video capture and such. I forget the name of the package off the top of my head, but it's caused problems with OpenGL before, and many other games. Best suggestion is to ONLY install Catalyst and the Radeon drivers.

We really need a crash report if you can find it. Search for a "hs_err_pid.log" file. Typically it will be in your Java folder, but there is no guarantee as system settings and other software can change where it gets placed.
Make sure that you have the Java option "Enable in Web Browser" checked. Without this, Haven flat won't run. (Then again, your system may not even recognize the file type if this is off.)
I would verify that there is only one Java version installed. Make sure you use an utility to clean the installations after you uninstall. Oracle recommend "
CCleaner." There's a free version that is effective for removing registry keys and dangling files that could be causing a problem.

It's a nearly 40 year old graphics standard that defined 16, 24, and 32 bit color definitions for PC graphics display in the late 80s at specific resolutions. It was later revised for display resolutions upwards of 1600x1200 and larger. It's also the name of the analog (15 pin?) port that you plug your non-HDMI monitor into. Some people still use this instead of the more generic "GPU."
