Problem with map loading (i guess) and/or wifi

Postby gradclone » Tue Jul 18, 2017 2:34 pm

Hello

Currently on holidays in Japan, i'm having troubles with the game.

First, some technical infos about my configuration :

I bought a new laptop which is : ASUS X541UV
(core i7, 4Go Ram, window 10 family 64bits)

Graphic card is : Nvidia GEforce 920 MX. Driver version is : 369.37 (automaticaly updated)
There is also a chipset INTEL HD Graphics 520
(yes i tried the sticky solutions about intel chipset ...)

I'm using a device for wifi connection, which may be (or not) the problem : Pocket Wifi LTE
https://store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp/pcju ... e=slga_pla
it's furnished by a japanese provider so we can have wifi connection without having a "box" or telephone line.
The driver is : realtek rtl8723be wireless lan 802.11n pci-e nic

------

Now the problem.

The game launchs without pb, and i'm getting to the character selection screen.
Then, when i click to play, nothing happens for a long time, about 20 seconds.
Then i get to the map loading screen, black screen. The game seems to block at this stage, when loading map. Especially when "gfx/(...)/hornblende" message is shown. It keeps waiting at this stage, or "waiting for map data".

I'm having the same problem with ender or amber client, updated. Game always block at map loading stage.

Strangely, with default client, the game sometimes go through this stage (not all time) and i have my character appearing, and then i can move, but everything is very slow. When i open a cupboard or a smelter for exemple, i dont get the window until 1 or 2 minutes ... Sometimes the game freezes 3 seconds after my character appeared. Sometimes i'm getting stuck at map loading like for amber or ender. And sometimes i can't even go past character selection screen and nothing happens, or the game reboot to the authentification screen.

---

I tried some of the solutions i could find here, but nothing worked :

- tried java 32 bits, java 64 bits. Since my system is 64 bits i use it most of time (for other tests).
- tried to disable intel graphics.
- used the nvidia configuration panel to get all java exe (javaw too) work with nvidia high performance 3D.
- wanted to try a ethernet connection to know if this is wifi related as i think, but then i had "connection timed out : connect" error message and i couldn't stay longer to fix this, so i'm still in doubt. I can't access the ethernet connection easily, and i can't use it to play anyway. I'll have to deal with the wifi device only.

---

I hope someone can help me with this problem. Sorry for bad english, i try to be as precise as possible but i'm french so maybe sometimes i'm not clear. Don't hesitate to tell me then, or ask for more infos.
Oh and i'm NOT technical or informatic guy so ... please be tolerant :p

Thanks a lot for your help.

It could be possible that your uplink has a smaller MTU than windows suspects, some request for data (like the hornblende texture) might still be smaller than the local MTU but bigger than the uplink MTU, leading to them getting silently dropped, resulting in your client not receiving the data and waiting for it endlessly.

You could try this theory by following the direction in https://en.code-bude.net/2017/02/20/how ... in_Windows

Thanks for response.
I had read some threads about this MTU thing but i don"t understand :p
I'll read your link tomorrow and try to get more viable infos with it. Thanks.

Hello

Sorry for delay in answer, was on a small trip without pc for a few days.

I followed the direction in your link. Determined that my optimal MTU was 1470 (+28 pixels), where windows was fixing it at 1500.
So i set my MTU value (for wifi, right?) to 1498, no result, same problem.
Then i tried to set MTU at 1470, and then at 1000, no results, same problem.

One thing : when i use the first command to see the mtu values i get :
1 50 4294967295 connected Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1
is it normal?

Here are the other values if maybe it can help :
Idx Mét MTU État Nom
--- ---------- ---------- ------------ ---------------------------
1 50 4294967295 connected Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1
5 25 1498 connected Wi-Fi
7 5 1500 disconnected Ethernet
9 5 1500 disconnected Connexion au réseau local* 4

(1498 for wifi was set by me)

Any other idea? Thanks for helping though.

btw an info that may be interesting. When i download some files (for exemple an old nvidia driver now) the download is very, very slow (4ko/s ! ) while some others are at 700 ko/s (when i downloaded amber and updates for exemple). Another example when i downloaded java64 the download was at 2ko/s, and then i paused the download, and when i re-launched it i had 700ko/s (fortunately). I don't understand why these huge differences. But maybe with haven servers something like that occurs and i get a ridiculously slow connection?
(if you have an idea how to fix these strange download rates maybe it would help).

Yes, the high value for the loopback interface is normal (the data going through there never leaves your machine).

I would fix the wifi to 1470 (to be safe from braindead routers) and reboot (it's windows) prior to testing it a last time. In case the client then still always hangs at '.../hornblende', it could be that the file (for some strange reason) is disliked by your snake oil (virus scanner) - please try with it disabled to rule this out.

Pointed Loftar (dev) toward this topic, possibly he has another idea.

I think you simply are too far from the server (with a wifi device also and probably a not really good connection) ... don't play and enjoy the holiday :D
P.S. If you want you can make some test: open cmd , ping game.havenandhearth.com, post the results

@granger :

I set mtu to 1470 and rebooted, and also removed mc afee which was preinstalled. No results :/

I see possibly my graphic card drivers are not good, and try to get older ones, but my download speed is at 2 ko/s at nvidia...
(these download rates are very strange like explained in previous post, might be part of the answer)
Also when i click play on character selection screen the delay to map loading screen is very long, maybe 30s...
This is strange because on other sites, or when browsing the connection is quite good, better than my own one at home.

@sMartins

here are the results

mmmm.... it seems not that bad, but considering that even me from italy ( server is in Germany) with 33ms, sometimes happen that loading times in or out houses, caves, etc.. are a bit delayed, 300ms could be the reason ... i guess the best bet is waiting for Loftar.
