Some computer specs might be helpful. You could be close to minimum processor/GPU needed to run the game, and that can make graphics loading slow. The current version of Haven needs an OpenGL 2.0+ compatible GPU--Note some integrated Intel GPUs have issues running Haven.
As long as the game isn't actually crashing, you may not be waiting long enough for the system to load files. You might have a network issue caused by: slow network; poor network quality; firewall, antivirus, or other security software interfering with the connection. If you're on WiFi, trying plugging in to a router with a cable. Try disabling security software temporarily to see if that helps.
Try clearing out temporary files. Try clearing out the Java cache (Java settings, General/Temporary Internet Files, press "Settings..." button and then "Delete" button in the window that pops up. Along with this, if you're using Windows, regular computer maintenance can help speed up overall processing and remove stray files and settings that can bog the computer down. There are several good cleanup utilities out there, and one might help.
