Poppy Grist bug (maybe, but probably not)

Postby DoctorZalost » Sat Sep 16, 2017 11:55 pm

I'm not sure if this qualifies as a bug because I don't know anything regarding the amounts required for making opium.

That said, I harvested a few Poppy flowers at some point within the past few days and got one (1) Poppy Pod. I dried it and ground it in a quern and received .07 Poppy Grist.

I left the grist boiling in a cauldron while I was doing other things and came back to a non-boiling cauldron with enough water to still be graphically full. I checked the inventory and the .07 Poppy Grist was at 100% (I'm not sure if that percentage display is a custom client feature but I'm using Amber's Client in case that makes a difference, although I can't imagine how it would) but there was no fuel left. I lit the cauldron and the instant it started to boil, it consumed enough water to change graphically. I filled it with water from a nearby barrel, and then immediately opened the cauldron's inventory which turned out to be completely empty.

I feel like there's a decent chance that this isn't a bug and that I just didn't have enough grist to make even a single serving of Opium, but I think it might be worth reporting since, again, I don't have any info on what kind of returns should be expected.

Not a bug, Poppy grist being boiled results in a much smaller amount of opium as a result. Unfortunately you didn't have enough grist so it basically evaporated and resulted in no opium.

Made opium a few times and even a sizeable amount of grist results in a measly amount of opium.

What amount approximately needed for one opium serving? How much is sizeable amount and how much did you get?

I obtained 0.01g of opium from the grist of a single q76 pod.
While quality may be a factor, I don't think it is intended for a single pod to result in no product whatsoever.

I'd assume it's correct if you look at the article on opium on the Wikipedia. Only 12% of opium latex is the actual drug and opium latex is only a fraction of a pod's weight. The actual 1:10 ratio (as 0.50 kg grist makes 0.05kg opium) is quite generous, given the primitive equipment.

You, indeed, get a ratio of 1:10 grist to opium. If you boil less than 0.1 grist, you simply get the corresponding random chance to get opium out of the deal. So 0.01 grist will give you 0.01 opium 10% of the time.

Not a bug.
