Couldn't find any threads about this, so I guess it's new?

Consistently reproducible by trying to interract with the cheese rack diagonally from just a little bit away from the wall. (And also far enough from the cheese rack that my character has to move to reach it)
I can only walk around inside that one tile though, and can walk back out no problem.

Could the bats there have something to do with it?

No, the bats just happened to be there. It works even without any around.
Basically there's a sweet spot angle where you start clipping just enough into the wall to walk through, otherwise collisions work normally.

Also just tested it with a barrel (still worked), a crate, and an anvil (only worked when they were placed facing towards the wall tile).

I'm not sure if this is still applicable since the pushout update, but I remember being able to run in between cave walls that were diagonal adjacent by just repeatedly running into the wall until i hit that sweet spot. semi related I suppose.
