game load hangs at "Waiting for map data..."

I've got an issue breaking the game for me, I've tried to figure it out on my own but gotten nowhere. It involves the client never getting past the "waiting for map data...", preventing me from interacting with the world beyond moving via the minimap. The issue happens in the default client (both on a windows 10 machine and on MacOS), and on Amber client. It does not effect newly created toons or old toons I have from earlier in the world. The problem has persisted for 18 hours now, and I am starting to go through early stages of withdrawal.

* I can still interact with the minimap
* I can still interact with menus, including changing gear/curios
* Both test systems are up-to-date on Java and drivers (although they weren't when the problem occurred)
* I have left the default client running for hours without it getting out of this state
* The game never actually crashes per se, so I don't expect to have any useful logs, although if someone thinks otherwise I'll post them for sure
* I've looked around for this particular issue and not found anything, so I'm at a loss
* My character icon stays a purple "?", which is new and I assume related somehow

Anyone have any advice/ideas on how to fix this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Just a thought: Did You try completely disabling your firewall (PC & Router or whatever) just for a minute or 2 to see If it has anything to do with your problem? I do not mean configuring it, just checking out If You can play without IT or If You get the same error.

Also, try to play on a friend's PC If possible, to see If You can play getter using a different net provider. Some providers are retarder enough to provide You security that You do not need, effectively restraining your ability to use what You pay for.

What You describe here is your game's inability to load surrounding environment data from game's server. You fail to ask for it, are blocked from receiving it or You can not understand it (wrong version/mod/setting in a custom client).

I hope this helps somehow, though I doubt it

Given that I can log in to other characters, I don't think this is a network issue. That said I am on a network I don't normally play on, so I'll seek out a different network just in case. Good thought

It probably means that the world data around that character involves something that the network is uncomfortable with. Finding out exactly what that could be might prove tricky if I don't have access to that network myself, though...

On a sidenote, can I ask why this often happens specifically on mountain tiles? Black screen, waiting for data, can only move around via the minimap?

Well, the good news is that it does appear to be network related. I moved to a coffee shop network and now I can log in. Unfortunately, the offending network is an Airbnb network, so further diagnostic is probably impossible

Just in case someone is looking at this still: I am able to log in if my last logout is indoors, so it seems like something in the world, not on my character per se. Don't know if that helps...

I've had a similar occurrence in my cellar sometimes. Not sure what causes it.
