Boars undergoing domestication vanish

Postby Zenkat » Mon Feb 26, 2018 12:49 am

When attempting to tame 3 boars they vanished.

Long explanation:
I've been attempting to tame boars. So far I've tried 3 times. I've given the clover and hooked them to a post. In one case I even did the first taming session successfully. But the boars keep vanishing from the pen when I log back in. With the last one I tamed it to about 35% and then it vanished within 2 hours. No corpse, no broken fences.

I've tamed multiple cows, sheep, and horses so I think I have a handle of the time management required. I'm not sure if it's a bug or I'm just doing something wrong with boars since I haven't tamed this specific animal before.

are they tied to a hitching post or tree or mine support?

you said no broken fence so i assume you're putting them in one. you don't need a fenced in area, just use the rope on a tree/hitching post/mine support and they will roam within 10 tiles or so. otherwise they will disappear when no one is around (like despawn which wild animals do)

if you're hellbent on no hitching post thing, keep an alt around 24/7 so they don't despawn
if you are using a hitching post thing, then maybe you missed a taming session and they broke free from the hitching post thing

It's always the little things that get you...

That said, RNG can be pretty brutal here. I wouldn't doubt that you just got screwed by the RNG on all of them.

Well, I have similar problem, but it happened within 2h of first hitching them to post. Not sure if it's intended, but i hitched 3 animals to 3 post in close proximity (5 tiles between posts, in single line). No combat stance or anything, they broke leash and started wandering after about 30minutes, then later despawned. But when I hitched only 2, on edges, they didn't break leash.

Can someone confirm if it's supposed to be like that? Some kind of minimal spacing? Or something else is causing it?

There is a known bug by which animals can despawn if they are on the wrong mapgrid relative to the hitching post when the map unloads. That might be the case here, but otherwise hard to tell. If you miss the taming window by enough wild animals will eventually despawn.
