This is the memorized owner of an active claim that I have never met. Why does it say 2530 weeks ago?

2530 weeks divided by 52 equals (roughly) 48 years.

2018 minus 48 years brings us back to 1970, which has historically been used as the beginning date for computers for awhile now.

More on that: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_time?wprov=sfla1

Why exactly the game seems to think that character was last seen at the beginning of (computer) time is beyond me.

I have never seen this hearthling in person, so maybe this is just the default value?

Possibly, and if that's the case, why bother even showing a time if you've not kinned the person. Just show "???"

I guess the start of the world, since there are no characters older than that.

Maybe the devs started playing on this world a long time ago, but only recently it was made public for the players?

I was just randomly typing letters in the kin menu and i got this guy. His name is Lancer. I was really confused by this too.
Total misplay.

Yeah, cause time, in coding and always, has a reference .... and uses as year zero a date in the '70-'80 when that system was implemented.
The software is telling you met that guy since the beginning of time, so you never met that guy, probably it's that.

I'm not expert on computer programming but I get the feeling that zero and null are being mixed up.

The "last seen 2530 weeks" only appears when I press enter to change the name displayed. (If I just click on the name in the kin window, no "last seen" time is given at all.)

This one is for a hearthling I memorized in person, but have never kinned. So I have seen this one before. I guess time last seen is only for kin?

null == zero. The idea is that a "non-null" value is anything other than 0. No, they're not being mixed up. It's just the way it works, and the code has to reflect the intent of the design.

Note that in some languages that you can't freely interchange between the two values, even though they're technically the same in memory. Java is one of them. C/C++, on the other hand, makes no distinction, though some C++ compilers will throw a warning if you don't explicitly use NULL for certain values. This isn't standard if I remember right.
