Not 100% sure and someone should correct me on that or confirm:

Experience events doesn't have 100% chance to happen, so it's just a pure luck?

Was the new char in sight/combat with the beaver king when you killed it?
I have run some of my village's crafters through bat dungeons and they didn't get the exp because they were hanging too far back when we killed the queen.
