Isn't Mine Hole Ladder also a Mine Support?

Postby newacc3972 » Fri Oct 05, 2018 7:33 am

According to wiki and forum research, a mine hole also acts as a mine support with radii equivalent to the wooden one and centered at the ladder.

So... how did these cave ins happened?

Note: They are caused by me removing another support, but (according to wiki) that still shouldn't cause cave ins since those tiles are still supported.

Also note: I also turned on Display mine support radii and it might be hard to tell in the pic but it's not showing

Where exactly did you remove the support and where exactly did the cave-in originate?

Mine support radii display is a custom client feature, isn't it?

Those brown boulders next to the wall is where the cave-ins are, and these are just at the edge of the support radii which I removed (IE quite far)

No it's also on default client, under Toggles. The weird bright orange/yellow arc you see in the pic is the radii of a stone support

I'm not 100% sure but I recall someone saying that Minehole Ladder has similar radius to Wooden Mine Support.

I'm not sure when it was changed. I can't find the patch notes for some reason. However, I've found a few comments in the Ender and Amber threads asking for a proper indication of the ladder radius be added.

Could be the ladder isn't checked with the rest of the supports and we're just now finding this? Could be there was a tile that got triggered that wasn't covered properly and there is no actual bug. I can't tell from the screenshot, and my recent mining experience isn't enough to know for sure.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

You didn't answer where the support was.
In case you could post a cam:bad view from above with a custom client with tile grid active and mark the tiles where the now removed support was... we possibly could shed some more light on this.

One further comment about the radius: it is not enough that the radius intersects the tile, the center of the tile needs to be inside the covered area.
