Buddy ID

A custom client can recognize any player if they have spoken in any channel except Public Realm chat. The client verifies if you have an int id in your buddy window with the gobid. If you save this you can essentially memorize people without even memorizing them, without being near them, or without them knowing. Guess there goes the usage of bandit masks...

Edit: Also figured out some other stuff you could possibly do with this...

lets just make everyones names appear over their head at all times in the default client, that would really amplify my larping

Does gobid survive server restarts?

Would have to do more testing but it theoretically could if there is a way for kin list to identify it, but only Loftar I guess would know this. I would test more into it if I had time but right now got other projects I am trying to implement. I think there is a way to also do this bug with public realm chat but I haven't had time to go through and read that part of the code yet.

I suspect you're talking about the kin ID, rather than the object ID, surely?

It does in fact not even survive between sessions. That being said, I'm aware that it is slightly problematic, but I'm not entirely sure what reasonably better alternative I could use instead that would still allow the client to identify chat messages with someone who is in fact memorized. I don't consider it a huge priority, though, since, unless I'm missing something, all you have to do to not be identified is just shut up, but I agree that it should be fixed, and I'll do so if I can think of a reasonable mechanism for it.

Yes this was the ID I was talking about. Maybe having the server as a mediator of having the ID's but knowing it doesn't persist between sessions I guess is a bit more of a comforting thought.

If it doesn't persist through sessions, then is it even an issue, if, as loftar says, he/she keeps quiet? Players should just be aware that being quiet is a part of being stealthy.
