Long quests.

Postby Igglebert » Sun Nov 25, 2018 4:16 am

So for the second time in two days I got another quest that required me to go greet some tree or rock that was far off in the distance. Sounded easy enough, that is until I realized that I had been walking for more than 2 hours trying to find this tree/rock to greet. Yesterday I had a greet quest where I started off in Dis Kingdom, walked through Fire & Ice Kingdom, walked a fair bit into Storm Kingdom and still didn't reach who ever it was I was suppose to greet. Eventually I just abandoned that quest and the quest I got today that had me walking for more than two hours cause I figured they were bugged or something.

Was this a bugged quest? Was it some rare quest that would have given me some crazy good reward for completing it? Has it happened to anyone else before?

Did you have bad cam on? It messes with the quest giver pointers, you have to use default camera.

No I only use the default cam with the exception of having the larger zoom out enabled.

not a bug. those long quests can bring you literally across the map, and the reward is (comparably) crazy good. you can get a lot more LP, XP, or stomach reduction, or a much better gilding leaf than usual, or if you get unlucky, you finish that quest and you raise local otter quality by 1.

I was just thinking yesterday that my local adder quality must be the best in the whole hearthlands at this point ... :)

I get a lot of those long quests but I like them because I get 300,000 points or something as a reward so I find them worth the trouble. It's a decent days work. But I would advise against walking unless you are carrying a coracle and even then I find it not as good as compared to going on horseback, what with having to cross those gigantic landmasses and mountains and things. With saddlebags you can collect rarer foraging curios or hunt for rarer animals like mammoths.

You can use triangulation to figure out how far away the quest giver is. Hop from one way point to another and see how much the quest giver moves. That helps to decide where to start from to reduce your travel time or so that you can hit another half dozen quest givers along the way and save trips.

You can actually pinpoint the quest givers.
You need your own village with portico or charterstone and have visited the CF market charterstone (or any other charterstone that is far away from your village) .

You look at the direction where the quest giver is located, first from your village, lets say it is straight east, then draw a line on the world map.
Then you teleport to the CF market and check the direction towards the quest giver, lets say it is north, draw another line.

This will give you 2 lines that you follow on the world map, these lines will cross at some point and that is where the quest giver will be.
Now with this information you can use charter stones, milestones, using boat etc to get as close as possible or abandon quest if it is too bother some.

Work smarter, not harder.
