That land is already ruled

The worst monsters in the Hearthlands warp the fabric of space and time...

That land is already ruled

Postby Otsu » Wed Jan 09, 2019 2:37 am

I keep trying to extend my village's claim right next to my personal claim, but it won't allow it to be placed. It says "That land is already ruled"

What's causing this, is it just a bug- or some hidden reasoning that the game doesn't bother explaining?

there's another village blocking you, or perhaps a realm?
Idk but I believe its a remaining village banner. It may also be underground

I have placed a lot of village banners before this one. Also I'm not the village claim owner, just a villager with permissions for the banner.

Edit: Checked underground and there's nothing.

Most likely a banner of another village (even a defunct one) in the way.
Keep in mind that one doesn't actually needs to be on the area you try to claim, it can be farer away as the game will prevent overlap of the areas of influence, with some unclaimed tiles in-between...

Trust me, there's no villages in a 500+ tile radius.

It dosn't need to be an active village (in terms of still having an idol), it could be caused by any leftover village-level authority structure and as there is a mandatory 100 tiles buffer between the areas of two different villages that object might be at a grater distance than you originally suspected. Example for a banner: your banner reaches 30 tiles out, 100 tiles buffer, the other banner reaches 30 tiles out = foreign banner could be in an area 160 tiles wide (in both x and y directions) around the place you try to plant yours. Similar goes for cairns and statues.

Also, IIRC, there is no problem village-claiming an area even when a foreign village claim exists on a different level - thus there should be no need to look underground.

In case the problem stems from your personal claim being in the way: are you sure that the owner of that claim is a village member?
See viewtopic.php?f=42&t=57638 or viewtopic.php?p=739763

In case the character owning the personal claim actually being a village member and it's the personal claim that's blocking the extension: this should be a bug, a village should be able to extend over the personal claims of its members.

Is it, though? Personal claims have higher authority than village claims currently.
