The general rule is "can you craft anything with them?" There's more than a few items that give no discovery LP. I'm not sure if there's been work to change this rule or not. It's been a while since I've seen this mentioned.

edit: better phrase would be "does it unlock anything"

Roasted fish doesn't unlock anything, neither does roasted meat, but still they both give LP when first crafted. I'm just reporting inconsistency issue that's all.

There are a couple of recipes that call for specific roasted meats. You do get LP for them individually, though, included all fish.

Don't all tree seeds and berries give lp for discovery even though some are (as far as I recall) useless for even those rite and ritual curios?
