Can't get past play screen

I've been at this for like 4 hours trying to fix this, and posting on this forum was a last resort, but i'm sick of this stupid glitch. I can launch the game perfectly fine, no issues, until i hit the character selection screen, where any button i click has no response from the game. It only lets me wait for around 5 minutes after pressing the play button on my character before it just auto logs me out for afking. Even pressing the "new character" button has no response. I've tried restarting my router, restarting my computer, and logging out and back in both on this website and in the game. I first thought it was my poor internet connection, but i can still start up any game from steam as well as run and voicechat on discord, so i don't think it's a connectivity issue. My java version is up to date.

Everything is up to date, i have intel graphics and intel CPU on windows and already have 64 bit java, i have not recently updated anything, and i can't find any posts on this forum from people with the same issue as me.

which client are you using ?

What windows, what java?
Intel graphics driver is often buggy (the OpenGL implementation in it, which the game uses), maybe try another version.

i'm using the default client, nothing custom, windows 7, and Java 8 Update 201. no idea how to play on a different version.

I can only suggest to try a different version of the graphics driver.

Or take a look at what has changed on your system in the last days, as you have a character selection screen (which implies you have characters) it seems like you had been able to play before...

oh, i thought you were talking about a different version of the game. i still don't know how to switch to a different version of my graphics driver though. i'm on version 9.17.10.2963 of an Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000 card. i was able to play since 5 hours ago, and then it just stopped working.

Not sure where default client stores it's stuff, but making it to the char select screen and hitting play makes me think it's a corrupt cache or client files. Could be worth renaming your %appdata%/haven and hearth/data folder and seeing if that fixes it. If you do get in, you wouldn't have your maps or markers but at least you'd know what was causing it.

Get the 32/64 bit version depending on the windows version you have (see computer->properties).
