Can't build palisade

Postby valeriesusanne » Wed Oct 02, 2019 3:42 am

I couldn't find this on any topic; it is a very specific crash
Every time I try to build a palisade, I get an error message that the game has been closed and an error message sent. I seem to be able to do just about anything else, tried two different computers, two different internet servers and two different characters. As soon as I click on the palisade icon, poof! game over. Is anyone else having this problem? Maybe you wouldn't notice unless you happen to need to build a palisade; everything else seems to work fine :-/ Or is it just me

Can't reproduce in the official client.

viewtopic.php?f=47&t=39954 might help.

Well, poop. Not sure what to do now; I can do literally anything else except build any type of fence. Error message starts: "java.lang.RuntimeException..." Can't even build a roundpole. Immediately throws error message. Checked my graphics and updates, tried different computers. (btw, I have built palisade with this char in this game w/o issues previously) I use the "official" client. Hmmm. I feel there must be something embarrassingly simple I'm not understanding :|

Can you post more of the error message? It might tell us where the error comes from ...

Is it working with a custom client?

I believe I'm working with the "official" client (I just log in from the website. And I always get the "this file can harm your computer" message :? )
Here's as much of the message as I can:
The heading says: "Haven error! An error has occurred! The error has been reported" (to whom?)

java.lang.RuntimeException: statroot for StaticSprite (gfx/terobjs/arch/palisadecp(v14)) already in new cache even though empty"

then 12 "at haven" entries: Renderlist/PView.draw/Widget/GameUI.draw/RootWidget?HavenPanel Then "at java.lang.Thread.run (unknown Source)"

This is abbreviated, hopefully something jumps out. As you probably guessed, I'm pretty much computer illiterate :(
And I don't know how to do a screenshot
And I just found out (by accident) that I get a similar message when trying to build siege equipment (something I don't do)

As a test, you could try installing a fresh copy somewhere (avoid your current H&H directory) and see if you can duplicate the issue there. If not, then just move your maps over and you should be good to go.

error message reports being sent to loftar with official (default) client

looks like your cache is troubling ...
already in new cache even though empty
- weird that it happens on 2 computers ... do you use the same Anti Virus program on both?

You may run a a memory test too
(hold F8 at PC start to get the windows start option menu where you can choose to run the mem test)

Option 1:

check for 0 Byte files in (click "Size" in top row on right to sort)
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Haven and Hearth\data

delete them

Option 2:

You may try to rename
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Haven and Hearth\

data folder to i.e. dataorg

and make a new empty folder called data

... this way all res files in cache are downloaded again when needed

but also all map and marker files are gone (that's why keeping the renamed data folder)

at least it's good to see if it solves your prob for now (and with renamed data folder reversible)

Option 3 would be to knit you a custom client with included res files
(while you still may run into trouble with other res files messed up in cache)

It doesn't solve cache probs - that's always at the same location

Well it does look like a cache problem. Where is the cache located, normally?

Edit: Whoops, didn't see your comprehensive reply above. Thank you @borka

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Haven and Hearth\data

with default client there is where the client gets stored also
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Haven Launcher\cache
but it's not cache for map, marker and res files
