Disappearing of horse

Postby Satos » Sun Oct 06, 2019 2:16 pm

I was riding my horse in the forest when my client (amber) suddenly freezed. After 2-3 seconds of restart I saw that my character was staying on the ground without a horse and there was no horse anywhere near. I want to know what magic it was and how I can get my horse back?

If you log out the horse should be logged out as well (it will still consume its food meter though) and if you were able to restart in 2-3 seconds you shouldn't have even have logged out.

Only logical explanation I can come up with is that you unfortunately somehow managed to give command to dismount and horse wondered off. Not saying there can't potentially be some sort of bug that deleted your horse somehow.

For debugging purposes, you should go through step-by-step what you did in detail. Did you close the client and open new one in 2-3 seconds? How long did it take for you to log back in?

To dismount the horse it needs to press ctrl and I definitely didn't press it when had a freeze of game client. After having freeze I closed client and immediately restarts it. It takes about 5 seconds. When I saw no horse I tried to find it and roamed in that location in all directions but it was in vain. Horse could not run out so far in this short period of time.
Perhaps, there is possibility to find out what happened in some way in logs or something. I have approximate server time and exact location where it happened.
P.S. I miss my horse

You can try to PM the lead dev with that info but I'm afraid you won't be getting that horse back. It might result in bugfix though.

Off-topic derail removed to Hel.

If you want help with diagnosing and resolving the Amber client crash, please visit the appropriate thread in The Wizards' Tower. At best, all I can tell you is to make sure your operating system, driver, Java, Amber, and any other programs that could look at or interfere with network communications (particularly security software) be up-to-date and working properly.

As far as the disappearing horse, a village mate lost a horse early in the world in a strange situation similar to this. I don't recall the details, but it was found again a few days later several map sections distant from where it was left, a lot farther out than anyone had searched that day. The longer its missing, the more distant it will possibly travel.

I seem to recall seeing similar posts in the past, and horses had been found, though the cause was never resolved. (I'd have to dig, and don't have time at the moment to do a search.) At best, there's probably missing information here (due to the crash) and things worked as is typical here, just in one of the extreme cases. At worst, it's a rare bug that is going to be difficult to resolve (and so people will have to deal with it for a while).
