Logging out while lifting destroyable object

Postby DonVelD » Fri Apr 02, 2021 3:38 pm

I've found out that if you lift an item capable of destroying by hand, and log out while there's no place for it, it gets destroyed. Is this intended behavior? (Probably is, but still letting you know)

It mostly works when done inside of building

In addition, if done right, you can do it outside, but it just launches the object in some far away place. Maybe it could be exploited to send stuff through walls?

This is at least semi-known, you can also destroy almost any liftable object by carrying it into shallow water and logging off. Back when long-standing butcher-bug was present, it was only way to get rid of certain animal carcasses.

I see, but the last screenshot still looks like something that could potentially get exploited in some way imo.

It doesn't move objects off of claims that you wouldn't have permission to steal from.

It's not exactly a bug, it's just less than obvious what the alternative would be.

IIRC this was the bandaid fix to prevent things like cupboard stacking. Sounds like the fix does more damage than the exploit, and should probably be reevaluated.

It should be noted that this always was the historical behavior. It was changed at some point to be more lenient, and was, of course, immediately exploited. Thus, we cannot have nice things.

If anything, I should probably consider implementing a less stochastic placement algorithm, but that is not exactly trivial.

I'll take having cupboard stacking exist in the game over losing your best anvil because you DCd while holding it any day of any week in any universe.
