Vanilla client crash on character selection

Postby AlexNT » Sun Apr 04, 2021 8:23 pm

Seems to be random. Sometimes it's fine for up to an hour, sometimes I cannot log in for 30 minutes straight.

Windows 10, 3600x + rtx3070 (465.89 -- 3/20/2021).

Following the advice in a similar thread, tried disabling NVidia Experiece overlay and closing MSI Afterburner -- didn't seem to change anything.

Code: Select all
The client has run out of video memory. If the error persists, please check if you have anything else running that is using a lot of it.

I have been able to resolve my problems by resetting graphics settings to defaults. I am not entirely sure (only noticed on reset), but the "Render Scale" slider may have not been in the x1.00 position.

On the less positive side -- I got owned by cave bats in the process (3 of which aggroed me from what seemed like a good 10 tiles, while I was crawling). "Blunt trauma" from bats -- seriously?

It looks like you're running 32-bit Java. One thing I would try would be to upgrade to 64-bit Java and see if that makes a difference.

EDIT: I got ninja'd by your reply that you fixed the problem. If it happens again at least, that's what I'd try.

The scale of the bats in this game compared to our hearthlings lead me to believe they are this species:

It happens whenever I try to move the render scale to anything other than x1.00.

Re. Java -- first time I'm running into something like that. I did check, and yes, I'm apparently running 32-bit. Now checking on how to run 64-bit.

Even so, I find it hard to imagine how a persistent blunt trauma would be possible.

EDIT: Switching to 64-bit JRE solved the crashes so far.
