No walnuts from planted trees

Planted walnuts right before the winter. They've just grown and there are no walnuts on them to replant. Bark, branches are there - no walnuts. Intended? Do I have to wait for a decay hit now to get seeds for a new planting cycle?

And yet I'm seeing seeds on other trees both planted and naturally spawned.

yes seeds in spring. but no seeds in winter. if the tree dosnt get its seed with its final growthtick, you will have too wait for random decay hits
