Can't stream game on discord, FPS dies

Postby thebacon » Sat Nov 02, 2024 9:53 pm

Any idea of why this happens? Usually stream with friends on discord but trying to do it on the game, even on custom clients, makes FPS collapse until it's outright frozen.

Any idea of what can do to dodge this?

I never found a fix streaming the program, but streaming "screen" worked for me.

If you run the console command :profile all and then press the ` key (backtick), you should get three windows of profiling information. Does any of them change significantly when you try streaming?

Last time I checked frames drop being memory usage goes through the roof until you basically OOM. Mayhaps i'll send you a heap dump if you'd like to see, I never actually bothered to look myself since it's a niche issue really imo

Makes me curious for sure. I have no idea why or even how an external streaming program would cause memory leaks on the Java heap. Are you sure it's Java heap memory and not something... more external?

It is odd, and it's the only thing i've ever noticed it on. Also, it's actually not at least in the constrained jvm heap itself after just checking. That seems to be within reasonable sizes after looking at the dumps, the process itself tho as a whole just is consuming and requesting more and more memory. Guessing it's just some bug in the runtime or something it has loaded outside of your control. Just from testing my process went from under 500mb to basically trying to consume all the RAM available over the course of a minute, but the heap itself was still normal sized.

It's bizarre but can only confirm the memory goes crazy in a matter of seconds too.

I guess the only way to figure out what's wrong it's a dev reproducing it monitoring this.

Unfortunate. That makes it even more difficult for me to debug. Does it make a difference what browser Discord is running in ("native" app, Chrome, Firefox, &c)?
