Craving system

Since the new world is on a horizon, I imagine a lot of people are thinking of or already have a strategy to their diet in order to progress in the most optimal/efficient way... and looking at the list of available food this game has to offer, most of it is very situational, if not "useless". I really like the idea of having a variety for rp reasons, but the reality is, people stick to the meta, and whenever new food is being added, it either replaces the old meta or just becomes completely ignored (i guess the same could be said about curiosities, combat moves, weaopons/armor, etc.). As the game continues its development, new foods will be added, and the ratio of "bad" food will keep growing and continue to flood the culinary menu. But what I'd really love to see is all the content in the game having an actual use that would worth player's time to invest in, as well as dev's time to be payed off. And as I already mentioned this problem isn't unique to the food only, but I think it can be somewhat fixed with the food by adding a "food craving" system similar to numen, where your character would have a craving of a number of different food types per FEP levelup that would give an increased FEP at reduced hunger level cost throughout the FEP levelup progress, with food types being added into craving list based on your maximum FEP level, i.e. at the very beginning your character would crave low FEP food, but as you progress you will crave for more advanced food types as well as still have a chance of craving simpler food, like bush berries even if your stats are over 1k. I think it would add value to the current and future food, as well as promote more trading/player interaction.

This could be interesting.. I'm all for mechanics that promote more interaction with all the content HnH has.

Like it, somewhat reluctant to add more moving parts to food system.

Salem had similar, identically named system. However, Haven and Salem food systems for leveling work differently: in Salem eating for FEPs (gluttony/feasting) is separate to simply eating the food to restore energy (in Salem's case, the humors) and craving would be fulfilled simply by eating it, resulting in every max humor raising by one.

Not sure how this could work in Haven, but raising every single Attribute sounds much too OP (Salem only had four humors.)

I wonder why devs didn't add a limit of 1 food type per stat point. As in instead of current variety bonus particular food would give feps only once, until fep bar is filled and reset.

This way, as player stats grow, he would have to keep adding more varied foods. Or in other words the variety of food available to you would dictate how high you can get your stats.
Implementing something like that now would require rebalancing of all foods though, so no chance.

I just wonder if devs considered it and why didn't they go with it

sorry for the confusion, what i ment was to have this as a bonus mechanic added on top of the existing system, you can still eat whatever you want as you do now, but if you eat something from your food craving list (that would change every fep levelup), you get more FEPS from that food type at a reduced hunger cost.

Cravings have been suggested many times already. Please use the search function!

But I agree, some kind of cravings that encourage you to eat specific foods would really make the game more fun, because you would get some variation in the stuff that you eat.

Is this not just satiation in reverse?

I feel the hunger+satiations system already effectively fills this slot.
