Newbie Seeking Advice: Best Starting Strategy?

Postby Gobbledygook » Tue May 14, 2024 8:13 am

I'm relatively new to the Ring of Brodgar community and I've been absolutely loving the game so far! However, I'm finding myself a bit overwhelmed with all the possibilities and choices available, especially when it comes to starting out. I was wondering if you seasoned players could share some insights and tips on the best starting strategy for a newbie like me.

Should I focus on gathering resources first, or is it better to dive straight into building structures and crafting items? Are there any specific skills I should prioritize early on? And what about food and survival strategies?

Any advice or personal experiences you could share would be greatly appreciated! Can't wait to dive deeper into this amazing game with your help. Thanks in advance!

Your first priority should be finding a good spot to settle for example of the good spot is to far away from any active village and out of gnome realm and good acces to swamps around. Then focus on getting some lp for the claim and catch many squirels as much as possible(you can check https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Squirrel_Cache for squirrels too) and dry their skins. I think 10 drying rack wil do the job for one hermit.

First day > find the spot for settling and claim it. Fullfill the at least ten drying racks with skins so you will have enough hide for the next day.
Second day > Get enough strings for ropewalk and make yourself at least 5 rope for the https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Palisade and make yourself a q1 cauldron and make two bone glue so you can build your first palisade. Without the palisade(soaked) you are not safe.

with the extra hide you got i recommend to craft the stuff below and start https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Tanning process you will need lots of leather.
https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Waterskin Very important for stamina
https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Sling Make your hunting life easier you can hunt the bunnies and tame the animals easly
https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Wanderer%27s_Bindle extra inventory slot

Third day >> You will have enough leather for the stuff below i strongly recommend to craft those items.
https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Leather_Backpack for extra inv space
https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Poor_Man%27s_Belt foor saving inventory space
https://ringofbrodgar.com/wiki/Poor_Man%27s_Gloves good for picking up Crabs, Jellyfish and Hedgehogs. and stinging nettle

About the food Make yourself a table and a chair for hunger reduction. Do not eat the same thing too. You will have lots of meat from the hunting you need to done. Forage for the berries and mushrooms and dont forget to fish with the entrails you get from the animals. With this thing you will have a solid start.
