Hunger change affected ingredient local resources

Postby Fostik » Wed May 21, 2025 10:35 am

So localized resources Driftkelp and Fairy Mushrooms used to be (and still is) a very strong modifier components in any of the foods they used with.
With latest change of fixed hunger to FEP ratio, using this components automatically means that hunger generated for the food will be highly bloated, which makes such foods not as viable as others.
It also affects Heartwood leaves, which is food ingredient too, although it has more unique uses such as gilding or travel weariness food.

As a result, those resources were inadvertently nerfed, and not as used and traded anymore in this world as they were in previous.
If they could be buffed in future that would address the issue.

If no one is buying why are there so many people selling them?
The answer is they are still very powerful if you choose to ignore hunger or participate in hunger reduction mechanics.
Tell me why I'm wrong OP. I want to learn if that's the case.

Well we certainly look at the same picture on market parser https://brodgar.io/trade/ but read it differently.

If we look at Salt Crystals offers we see few to none being sold, but many requested to be bought.
On the contrary, Fairy Mushrooms has a lot of offers to sell, but very few traders buying it, same picture with Driftkelp.
My conclusion was that this is the pure example with supply and demand showing stuff like Fairy Mushrooms or Driftkelp are rarely demanded as people don't need them, so excess supply expresses as stock surplus, and quite opposite with Salt Crystals.

But you are comparing salt crystal to food ingredients. I don't think its as simple as just to see which one is bought more.
I have also read from very high stat players how its not sensible to maintain very low hunger levels but rather wait for it to go down or quest for hunger reduction.

If these food ingredients indeed sell worse than previous worlds it could also be that more types of food have become useful to eat with new food system rather than just those made with localized resources which reduces the need to buy them in large quantities.

I think this means fairy mushrooms and driftkelp become more accessible for the little guys.
I don't see a huge issue with the current situation tbqh.

Salt is an overpowered piece of shit local resource that got fucking buffed again for absolutely no reason this world

Last world it was half as good and people were still hardcore using it.

That's what you're seeing.

And on top of that the whole hunger food ratio rework is meaningless because at below 150% you can just quest to get your hunger back up EVEN without any salt. It's stupid how they try to rework something and then they just add ways to completely ignore the system.
Driftkelp and stuff is still op and VERY usable, we've eaten cupboards of driftkelp once we got our first knarr and never had issues with hunger.
