Permanent Scent On Item

Postby azrid » Thu Feb 12, 2026 10:17 am

Let us mark items with a craftable permanent scent that will let us track it whenever.
The item should have a tooltip that its being tracked so it can't be used against unsuspecting victims.
This will let people mark their important items and know who to go after to get it back.

So we're skipping past industrial revolution and go strait to GPS trackers.
Recipe for a quadcopter drone when?!

In all seriousness, "soul-binding" (©WoW) items in any way to a character doesn't seem quite in line with the game's other mechanics, maybe ask for, say, some sort of a Justice Shrine or Revenge Coffer or Petty Purse that can hold crime scents indefinitely and replicate them fueled by rare materials? That would basically do the same thing but comes across as a less passive and lazy option, and likely won't have so many potential abuse built-in as a "tracker" placeable on any item before it even changes hands. What if I make a Beetroot trackable and bake it into a Beetroot pie and give it to you as a housewarming gift at a local trading post? Huh? HUH?

did you forget like a "only while within the village it was marked in" or something, i feel like that was the intent here and not a mapwide gps signal

+1 for the Petty Purse, that sounds like fun. /gen

My treasured item. I would like to track it down until the end of the world.
When the owner of my treasured item is busy or quit the game I can get it back!

Due to the lack of imagination in this thread I'll just say the crafted item that would make my treasured item trackable would take some valuable materials like silk, steel and precious metals so you can't just spam it on beetroots.

Also I will mention again since some of you didn't read the OP.
The item would be marked in the tooltip and you would know its being tracked and someone cares about the item enough to put a expensive to craft marker on it.

It would be nice to know which villager we need to KO in their sleep when someone logs out with the smithy's hammer

Huge mistake though.
Unsuspecting victims are usually noobs who dont need any more obstacles.
I've seen these people get beaten up by ants.

This is the perfect example of creative thinking.
