Scroll wheel click to cycle between stockpile types placemnt

Postby Jorg » Sat Jul 18, 2026 2:09 am

Some items can be placed in more than one stockpile(IE ore vs stone, leeks vs onions). Adding the ability to scroll wheel click between different stockpiles types would be a nice way to conveniently select one stockpile type over another, and would make it easier to usefully implement more specific vs catchall stockpiles types in the future(IE ronion/wonion/yonion/garlic stockpiles vs onion and leek, generic fruit stockpiles vs specific fruit stockpiles as well.)

So your asking to be able to create a (example case:) Stones stockpile with a Ore item.
(Personally I don't really see the need for it.)

Seems to me it makes more sense to do something like that with a drop-own [Stone, Ore] menu on the stockpile ui. Instead of the mouse wheel.
Needles to say the Ore option would only be available on a Stones stockpile if it only contained Ore items and not a single general Stone.

+ Indirectly your also asking for some current function of the mouse wheel to be ditched. Either the game-view Zoom-in/out function, or the stockpile items transfer. Granted the latter is potentially not used 'that' much (by some).

Also something to think about.
If all unions types would have there own specific stockpile case ... The general unions stockpile would need to be the default created stockpile for all unions (as things are now)
... Unless of course the stockpile ui would have that mentioned stockpile drop-down feature.
... Alternatively the dev's could decide to add full auto switching stockpile display based on there 'full' content (instead of the item that is used to create the stockpile), which I don't see happening anytime soon. If ever.

Clicking(pressing down on the mousewheel until it makes a clicking sound)the mousewheel has no current function, so this is not true. Perhaps your mousewheel does not click. I think it would be nice to have clearly differentiated stockpiles without signposts when possible, I just don't see a good way to keep adding specific vs catchall stockpiles(many different fruit stockpiles for example) without making it easier to also place the default stockpile. I also think it would be nice to have a few cliques of specific stockpiles to have a catchall stockpile(general fruit stockpile, as for nuts) as an option, as for onions vs leeks at the moment.

Not really an issue. if the default onion stockpile came up after right clicking, and mouse wheel clicking brought up the specific stockpile, current functionality would be preserved, with the additional option of a specific stockpile.

I see, you used "scroll wheel click".
Funny part. If I push the scroll wheel down ... It clicks. And if I scroll the scroll wheel ... it also clicks.
... The general default terminology for it is "mouse button 3" or "middle mouse button". "scroll wheel down-click" would also have been a bit less ambiguous.
Needles to say I assumed you meant turning the scroll wheel.

Sure it has: (fact checked against vanilla client.)
Global Move UI stuf (Middle mouse button) wrote:Currently the Middle Mouse Button is hardly used.
1) Main: Panning/changing the camera view. (when MMB is used, click+hold & drag, in the main world view)
2) (not documented) Switches focus to the MMB clicked container(ui). (dupe functionality)
And that's it.

Last part is incorrect. At least one union-type would need to use the general union stockpile (how stockpiles creation are coded/behaving now).
