You guys are going to hate this

So about world pvp, since more than half of the playerbase just plays pve, and the pvp people just stay for like 2 months of the world then leave. So maybe make pvp optional but rewarding, make the world pve and one zone pvp, that zone has resources that the other zones don't have and needed to go to deeper mine levels or making endgame stuff like grinding metals or shit idk, make it so you have to go to pvp zones if you want to progress in the endgame or the quality grinding and if you just want to farm and trade then just dont go and you are safe.(Stealing is still enabled in pve).

This is a cool idea that will affect the gameplay and increase some dramas with all the pvp factions in the same area, but will make the world chill and fun for the stardew valley enjoyers.

Another choice is to have pvp and pve being a thingwall choice of the owner of that province. this can be kinda weird since you need pvp to challenge thingwalls so idk, i like the pvp zone idea more idk. Having the pvp zone being all the map and the pve being a little zone of the map is a choice too.
This right now kinda sucks but you will need to add incentives to a player to go to the pvp zone, and not making it so they can trade stuff from the pvp zone and dont have to go there.
Realms buffs being only pvp zone, dungeons only spawning in pvp zone, more events, quality cap in the pve zones, if you try to move a 400q anvil to the pve zone you only get 100q cap items, maybe add lvl 10 to the mine with crazy shit in the pvp zone, or no, idk, the game is dying and people doesn't seems to care about anything

the problem with incentivizing pvp by making it so you have to go to a specific area to get gud lute or be able to grind quality is that pvpers are the only ones who want (read: need) to grind quality. most other people are content with their q9 anvils and will just avoid those areas, thus pvp is mostly dead.

I think you always need to filter any idea like this through the lens of thinking like a full-bore griefer. Any non-PVP zone is basically just a free for all griefing-enabled zone where I can wall every quest giver and every resource and create a wall of like 400 alts around your base that you can't do anything about etc etc.

whoa whoa hwoa you can't just apply logic to my pve-only server/area/map idea like that

The PvP continent should be small and closed during off-hours. HnH does not have the playerbase to support an ongoing 24/7 PvP war.
A hidden island that is only accessible during specific time windows throughout the day so players can irl prepare for it.

Entering the PvP zone should be possible from anywhere. There is no point in making this step complicated. You want players to participate. Make it an instanced map even.

No claims allowed.
Limited building options to prevent griefing.
Your inventory is all you can take back with you.
If you die you respawn at your Hearthfire which can't be build on the island.
Hearth Magic skill to teleport to the island on a long cooldown (doubles as a respawn timer).

The rewards should be character-bound. Experience and LP. Make EXP and LP play a bigger role in your quality grind. Great way to discourage alt-ing as every character needs combat stats now.

Something like Deep Sea in Rust or Mists in Albion.

I think you are absolutely right, but the masses won’t understand. I would go even further and completely remove PvP.

Take Stardew Valley, for example. It is a somewhat similar game, and I would even argue that H&H is a better farming game in many ways. Stardew Valley still averages a massive amount of daily players (100k checked today), and that game released in 2016. So why is this game, which in my opinion is a better farming game and also an MMO with all the social aspects people usually love, only averaging around 150 daily players?

A lot of people will do mental gymnastics to tell you this is not true, but PVP is the issue. It is the reason this game does not have more players. How many people started playing, made one small mistake, and had their whole base raided, stolen, or destroyed? Then when they try to understand what happened, they are met with toxicity and “your fault, git gud.” Do you really think a new player keeps playing after that?

And then the same people say that without PvP, players would be even more toxic. They use examples like someone dropping dirt outside another player’s base as toxic behavior (real case, btw). But the PvP community in this game does the most autistic cringe shit you will never see in any other game. Port camping, hard locking people with palisades, abusing village creation to block terrain, dropping so many logs around a thingwall that you can’t even see where it ends, filling palisade doors with tiki torches so it takes hours to remove them, extorting new players for items that cost real money... just to name a few.

And as always, and you cannot tell me this is a lie, after a maximum of three months, most of the PvP community is gone. The best worlds I have played are the late ones, where people actually trade and play the game instead of acting like murder hobos. But by then, the damage is already done. New players who joined at the start of a world and got killed probably quit, and new players who see an already developed world usually don’t want to join either.

This game has a very small loyal community that has been playing for decades. The devs keep trying to appease that community, but I honestly don’t think they understand the game or play it enough. They seem to have taken the wrong lessons from a loud minority within the community. They tried so hard to push the game in the wrong direction that they killed it in the process. And they are not even close to realizing it, because in the last stream they said they kind of wanted the world to be more dangerous than it is now. Yes, really.

PvP is the problem. People can make excuses and twist what I’m saying, but it does not make it any less true. If this game didn’t have PvP, or if it had a similar approach to other games where casual gameplay is embraced instead of punished, the community would be much bigger than 150 daily players.
