This system doesn't work.

Here's my story, and why I think devs should do something about it:

I started playing 2 days ago, with a couple of friends. We settled, and soon found hostile players. Soon we met friendly players; their camp had just been destroyed by the same hostiles that bothered us. We decided to unite and move away. We settled in a couple of hours, built a house, started our little camp, while one of us was gathering points to get a claim. A couple of hours later our house was destroyed, and our stuff trashed.

The next day, me and my friends decided to move again, far away (a couple of hours IRL) this time, and leave behind the "friendly players" who didn't want to move.
We settled, built a house, a bunch of crates and started our camp. The area seemed clear, barely anything built by players in a good radius around us. that was yesteday.

Today we started our little claim, just big enough to claim the house and a few more blocks, since my friend didn't have enough LP to claim more. About 1 hour later, a fresh spawn with nothing but a bucket came to us. He trashed the stuff we couldn't claim yet (e.g. removed and threw on the ground stuff from the drying frames), and then began destroying everything we had out of the claim. Frames, plower, table, chests, piles of items.. everything we couldn't fit in the house or claim was destroyed by a fresh spawn with a water bucket.

This would have been annoying enough in the old world, but it is even more in the new one: why? Because of the limited time system. In the last few days I spent abount 10-15 of my initial 48 hours, and most of those hours has been wasted now. It's nonsense that a fresh spawn can destroy your entire camp, and you can't stop him in any way. It's nonsense that if you are new to the game, or not hyper-efficient, you have no way to protect your stuff for the first days of gameplay (because they can destroy the house, so don't start with the HF in front of the door, and caves are not safe anymore). While losing a few items to thiefs is part of the game, having everything destroyed for no reason, should not. And now, destroying items take no time at all! 3-4 hits and most stuff is gone! While building it, takes a lot more (just take how long it takes to chop a tree, compared to the time and stamina you need to destroy a chest or other item). Even if I had murder it wouldn't matter, because he's a fresh spawn: he has nothing to lose.

I'm fine with fresh spawns stealing, but there is a limit to it: their inventory. But when they begin destroying your stuff, or throwing everything on the ground "just because they can", that's when the game becomes annoying. And now I can't say "oh well, I'll just rebuild", because building that meant spending my account play-time, not just my personal free-time.

At this point, I either wasted most of my used play time to do stuff that I lost to a jerk, or I can start a new account and new character, losing my skill progression so far. Both options suck. And all thanks to new spawns.

In the end, what I'm saying is this: You want to limit our free time? You want us to spend money to play? Fine. But then you need to find a way to limit such behaviors. I don't know how; make it so that you can't destroy items without a mid-grade tool, or that it takes a lot more to destroy a single item.. do whatever, but do something.

The solution seems fairly easy: Build in the right order. We never build anything of importance that doesn't at least fit on our claims.

Early game building stuff is of not much use anyway. Exploration is king. Once you have enough xp to care for a decent sized claim you can start looking for a good place.

I don't see this as a bad mechanic, but more as something you need to direct your actions in.

You can also shoot at people from your own claim btw, even if you don't have rage. Should have maybe just done that.

Yeah, exploration is king, and where do you keep the stuff you gather? If you live alone, or are quite new to the game, it takes at least a few days to get a claim.. what should I do, sit around and do nothing until I get one? Because you know, I can't fit everything in my inventory, and can only study a few items at a time..

You might not enjoy early game, probably you are one of those people that the day after the server went up already had a palisade, a claim and were out hunting deers and boars. But some people like to take it slower, and some people don't know the game well enough to rush early game. So while a fox hide or some seeds might be nothing for you, it might mean a lot to other people.

And again, the problem is not just the items, it's the structures. Why would you need skills to cut a tree and hunt, but no skill at all to destroy an entire house?

If it was made like this to "direct your actions", then the skill tree is made like shit. Because it takes several skills to get Yeomanry, and several points. Why would it be easier and faster to do carpentery, leatherworking or pottery, if I'm not supposed to do it until I have a claim?

Also, why is there even a Rage skill, if you don't need it to attack players? And even if I had something to shoot him with, and all the ammo in the world, I'm sure you are aware it's not easy to hit a moving target.

I really thought the payment system would bring an improvement in both the kind of people playing and the effort from the staff to make the game more enjoyable, but so far it doesn't seem like it. I recently asked about a Swastika I found in game, and the reply I got from staff was "you can deal with it yourself, kill the player who did it", without knowing if I was a fresh spawn, of they were 1 or 20 people, etc.. Just not caring at all..

Arguably fresh spawns might be a bit too useful right now.

Well at least they cannot be spawned where you need them at. That should deter a lot of their power.

But the no soak thing certainly has its downsides... Especially when you build walls, those can usually not be fully claimed unless you build an idol first, which is silly... So they are very vulnerable.

And again, the problem is not just the items, it's the structures. Why would you need skills to cut a tree and hunt, but no skill at all to destroy an entire house?

I do agree with that. I merely wanted to provide you with alternative strategies to avoid the issues you have been having. And no I still do not have any palisade or any kind of building up.

Also, why is there even a Rage skill, if you don't need it to attack players? And even if I had something to shoot him with, and all the ammo in the world, I'm sure you are aware it's not easy to hit a moving target.

Rage is for when you are not on your claim. Also the aim meter does not go down anymore from moving targets. Also, when someone is bashing your stuff he or she has to stand still for that anyway.

How on earth did you manage to survive the obviously distressing ordeal of seeing 8 lines in a geometric arrangement?
I'm surprised the staff didn't offer you counselling.

Being concerned by a swastika = tumblr?

At any rate, I literally carried everything I owned on my back or in a hollowed log that I went nowhere without during the first few days of launch, and I never had any problems except for when I attempted to build an unclaimed home. I did this until I could claim land. Hardcore hermit or bust, OP.

Pretty much. There is nothing to be "concerned" about. No one is trying to do anything other than troll, and the "concerned" attitude is precisely what feeds them.
