Can't think of a single reason this is a bad idea. Could even give it it's own set of combat maneuvers (if the sledgehammer don't have 'em, it needs 'em) and a strength on par with an axe.

Hell, there's no reason not to do the whole tier:
Stone hammer, Builder's Hammer, ?Warhammer?, (I wanna be your) Sledgehammer.
jorb: I don't want *your* money. You are rude and boring. Go away.
Sevenless: We already know real life has some pretty shitty game mechanics, it's why we're here instead.
Avu: The end is near it has finally come to pass: I agree with Lunarius...
Shubla: There are also other reasons to play this game than to maximize your stat gain.

I really like the idea!

Maybe starting out would be a wooden/stone mallet with a recipe like:

2x Wood Blocks, 4x String (if it's a wooden mallet)

or 2x Stone, 1 Wood Block, 4x String (if it's a stone mallet)

This would provide a small ease on building, being accessible from an early stage.

Then when the play finds metal, there could be a smithable building hammer.

Something like:

2x Common Metal Ingot, 1x Wood Block, 2x Hide Straps

The Metal building hammer would give a pretty good stamina ease on building, as well as a small boost to destroying

Hell yeah, I'd use a sledgehammer as a weapon.

No I don't care for this. We already have fast building this world. Construction should be an impact on your time for the benefits.

Yes when it serves purpose and does not arbitrarily remove value to the game. If you don't have to work for something it holds no value. If it holds no value it is disposable. Work and achieve your construction efforts and feel pride when you are finished. :)

But I don't think the idea here is to remove value... It's just to make building a bit less annoying because you wouldn't have to drink water 438 times. It's pointless busywork, doesn't change anything besides making it less annoying. You just agreed with the "Empty" barrel button on the other thread, why is that ok and this is not if both are pointless busywork being mitigated by realistic things? (a building hammer would be realistic, as would tipping a barrel)

Oh, whatever, nevermind. I'm just bored.
