Spawning With Friends

There's discussion of this in the update thread but it'll get lost there, so posting this as a split off.

I'm kind of on board with the idea of one shot structures that let someone spawn with you. Just give people who spawn randomly into the wild a 2x2 inventory item that cannot be stolen, dropped, or otherwise moved, like a dream of kinship. There is no other way to acquire this item and it's used to let a friend spawn with you. It makes small groups starting up easier and isn't open to huge levels of exploitation. The only ways to get rid of the dream are to, say, throw it onto your hearthfire to let someone else spawn with you or to select a destroy option, maybe something wistfully named 'forget.' Otherwise it eats up a cumbersome amount of your inventory space but not enough to cripple you as you explore and establish yourself.

This doesn't solve the issue of lots of players trying to spawn with you but I don't think anything fully can besides setting newbies loose in the wild and having them fend for themselves as they make their way to you.

For larger groups maybe just let us spawn with a formal compass item that points us in the direction of our linked friend's hearthfire. So we spawn with a hearth secret and we get a 2x2 sized item that expires over a few days and cannot be looted or moved without simply destroying it. This way we aren't reliant on kind of a silly party system to find one another, because lets be honest it feels very informal at times and requires both players to be on the entire way. This way friends who join can make their way to you at their own pace and establish themselves temporarily and take breaks along the way.

I like this, so long as people who spawn off a dream of kinship still get one to bring someone, so a large group can chain off one another

I really like this one, actually. Though, I don't think it would really need to be a 2x2 in this case. I feel it would add an interesting sense of urgency to trying to get to your friends.

My idea, as I posted in the other thread, was in the vein of a one time use structure with a twist. I don't know if it's a particularly strong idea. Alongside hearth magic, or maybe yeomanry, a construction could become available that requires some token but useful early game resources, bones/hides/something else not really sure yet. In addition, it would carry a significant cooldown on the construction & an escalating LP cost with each player summoned. (Maybe 1000 for the first, 2000 for the second, 4000 for the third, etc.) Something like this would be intended to prevent abuse & mass spawning of alts. In order to prevent just making an alt, using it to spawn an alt, etc etc etc, the cooldown could be applied to the spawned character, or the LP cost for spawning could be incremented based on whether or not the new character is spawning from a character who was spawned this way.

ie player A uses this construction to summon a friend, this costs him 1000 LP & the construction is placed on a 24 hour cooldown. Player B, his newly spawned friend also has this cooldown applied to him at the time of his spawn. Alternatively, player B's cost to summon could start at 2000 LP. 24 hours later, player B summons their mutual friend Player C, whose LP cost to spawn a friend starts at 4000 LP. So on and so forth. In this fashion players need to make a choice between their optimal early progression, and spawning their friends in order to have a different type of immediate advantage.

Thoughts? I'm unsure if I have described this in a clear manner.

This feels to me as though it may be a good idea.

Yeomanry can take time to get going... while your friends wait.

Maybe have a one shot skill? specifically for it?

Maybe simpler solution:

Enable spawn through hearth secret on fires that are created through random spawning, limited to 24h.

So in case you want to play with friends: spawn a toon, set secret, let your friends spawn at your fire, play together.

Move the fire, or wait to long, and they'll have to walk...

Abusable. Really abusable. Easy to mass chain alts and bots for various nefarious purposes.

Token lp costs can be foregone via abusing discovery lp as we learned with various early world exploits in World 8, such as rapidly expanding claim stakes for free via discovery fed alts.

I'd also like to not incorporate the idea of chain invitations. Not even because of the exploitation possible with it but because there are many practical situations where it will fall through. All it takes is one friend invitation to someone who doesn't really care or who only wants to play for a few hours and that's it, your next friend(s) have to walk.

Maybe but most of the time the trouble is that you've setup your camp/holdings 6 hours away from spawn and now you want your friends to show up and play. I'm not sure either of our solutions really broach the issue.

Why not spawn together and then move as a group toward greener lands?

While traveling you then can take the time to explain mechanics, point out stuff, ...

well, abusable in the sense you can get a lot of brand new spawns to the same area, but isn't that exactly the purpose of the idea? without it large groups are just setting off to find one another if pairs, in which case why bother wasting the time?

Effectively infinite alt spawn is usable to do all sorts of rotten things unfortunately and anything that permits it should be considered off the table. Some lenience on the subject is possible I posit, which is why I made the topic. Like I said though, "This doesn't solve the issue of lots of players trying to spawn with you[.]"
