QoL for steel making

Postby noindyfikator » Fri Nov 17, 2023 10:44 am

My wife wakes up at 6 am to work. When she wakes up, I wake up as well.

Our morning routine:
1. She makes coffee and breakfast
2. I turn on my PC and fill steel crucibles

She asks me, wtf are you doing?

I answer: I make steel, you don't understand, it's gameplay.
She answer: Are you retarded?
I answer: Yes

TLDR:
Can you please increase steel timer (amount of fuel we can put in it) to AT LEAST 14-16 HOURS SO I CAN EAT BREAKFAST FIRSTLY?????

Some mechanics has to be hard in order to make end result valuable

- Having a video game forcefully decide your daily schedule isn't a thing that attracts more players to said video game. It is a video game after all, not a job or even second life as some of the local autists religiously live up to, loftar or jorb.
- Forcing people to team up with players from other time zones and saying it's a valid argument against my first 3 arguments isn't valid. I should decide who MY friends are, based on MY OWN expectations from other people, and the time zone should not be a mandatory factor, jorb or loftar.

Inb4 loftar tells you to set up a bot to do it, or play in a 40-man village that will always have someone available to handle the pointless tedium. This is tedium. Setting an alarm on my phone is not "skill". Handling tedium is not "skill".

but they arent,
quick reminder, we had day 16 b12s this world, again, made from calco
the only people messing up there steel, and sleep circle is hermits and small villages,

big factions, and everybody with the nurgling client just has an steel refill bot,
steel is litterally one of the first things that looses its value compleatly, at some point its just waste from metal spiraling, used for building towers and hookas,

value through tedium does not work in an game that allows third party tools and automation.

To be fair, steel loses a lot of its value when you can just mine bloodstone/black ore instead of garbage ores like chalco. Making steel from chalco should not be possible, it's autistic af.
As for refilling crucibles, it's never really a problem, there is no reason for the process to require multiple refillings, it's just tedious busy work. Make it so the crucible can hold at least like 24hrs of fuel (I'd prefer enough for the whole process but i understand that devs want us to have to refill them)

Even if we, for the sake of argument, agree that the current fuel bar and process duration is fine, there's unacceptable pitfall involved:

I'll shift+click fuel into the Crucible -> Oh no! I miss-clicked and accidentally took the glowing-hot Wrought Iron out with my bare hands!

This especially sucks since it was 80% done and I was adding the last fuel required :(

It's not hard, it's annoying and inconvenient.

Why this mechanic still exists? The only way to fail steel is HAHA YOU FORGOT / your bot crashed. This is not hard, everyone and their mom have bots for this. There is no reason for microwave oven to not hold enough fuel to turn wrought iron into steel. Just make it take all fuel at once so you spend same amount of high quality sticks.

Same goes for silk, by the way.

What if first shitty crucible needs refill (but less refills than now) and add better crucible made from steel plates (bang steel bars in anvil so anvil q makes it a bit better) that needs no refills and has bigger inventory.

Edit: why steel doesn't require any flux material? That's real problem of steelmaking. Chalcopyrite iron should require some catalyst to perform steelmaking cause it's so dirty. Blackore on the other hand shouldn't require any flux.
