Both suggestions sound interesting. At my dacha, snakes like to sleep in piles of collected leaves. There are no scorpions, but if this can somehow be tied to the location, it would be logical.
However, the chance should be low. This would prevent snakes from being farmed this way, and every pile of leaves wouldn't lead to a fight with either a snake or a scorpion.
