Anti-horse thicket is stupid

Postby Luno » Wed Apr 15, 2026 3:44 am

Wildhorses can cross it, reindeer can cross it, everyone can cross it, but horses can't.
it's just stupid, it adds nothing to do the game, it's just annoying and uninteresting, and it's not even larpy because it makes no sense.
just get rid of that limitation, please.

Also, it would really help if you tone down thicket frequency on world gen, they are everywhere, i think they would be cooler if they were a bit more region specific like most biomes are.

+1 but I suggest they slow horses down in thicket. Wild horses are used to the wild while tame horses are not, and are very temperamental lol

These aren't horse barriers, but rather protective barriers for players. They prevent players from being seen and can escape from the rider. They prevent surprise attacks and rapid distance closing.

I also agree with the post above – tamed horses are different from wild ones; they've grown up in different conditions, and forcing them to go into dense thickets is "only after you."

Yes, sometimes they're common, but generally, these are rare, small areas where you dismount and lead the horse on a leash. The benefits they provide outweigh this inconvenience.

Thickets would be ok overall even with limitations to walk horses into, only if they weren't freaking walls in forests. They should be generated as small spots in forests instead, to hide from players, to break distance from horse rider(which is absolute parralel reality scenario btw) etc.

I think there is an argument that it may have been *somewhat* relevant, in large scale pvp, before you could dismount and leash run a horse through it. But even then it was such an edge case that it's hard to justify it.
That said, I think medium range invisibility in Thicket is super cool and people will eventually turn that it into something interesting... eventually. Maybe. Meta in development.

I just want to clarify that i have nothing more against thickets, i actually like their addition
I just don't like the things i mentioned here.

I don't think they should stop horses and i don't think they should be all over the world.

It's easy to imagine riding a horse through this forest.

Now try to imagine that you are on a horse - will you gallop through these thickets?

A wild animal will pass by calmly. You can find a passage on foot. If you gallop, you'll break your neck and ruin your horse.

Regarding frequency, they're more common in forest biomes, less common in lowland biomes, and I've never seen them in the mountains.
There's a logic to their placement and frequency.
