I think it should be mentioned, at least, that the soak increase starts counting from the time you placed the construction sign, rather than when it is completed, so you don't have to invest all the materials for it to start setting. That might be of limited use for wall-building, of course, but just putting it out there.

... It's called a Lean-To. They're claimed storage from day 1.

1 - build a lean-to
2 - find a swamp (not so hard, I found one just wandering a few minutes)
3 - on the swamp, get a BUNCH of dragonflies! You may be luck (as me) and find a ruby one!
4 - put dragonflie on study, log out, get back when it's over, put another, log out, repeat
5 - when you hit 4k+ LPs, rush for yeomanry, and keep putting dragonflies to study
6 - when you think you have enough LP to get a good sized claim, build a claim.
7 - be safe!

You may have been really bad luck, but all the players I meet on game untill now were friendly. I even helped a guy hunting a deer while I distracted a boar (with my body  ) and added some ppl as kins!
You gotta understand that, on ANY game where players can harass other players, there'll be stupid ppl doing stuff just to piss you off. It was like this on ultima online back in 98 when I started playing it, why would it be different now?
I remember a friend who played the early days of rust telling me it was just chaos! You would build a "house", log out, and come back just to find out someone destroyed it and stole everything you had!
On H&H, at leat you got some sort of defenses, like making a claim, building a palisade, building a stone wall. Just use it to your advantage, and be smart on the process!

I always thought it weird that one could carve runestones* and build housing before one could claim land.

*not related to the thread, just sad at all the wasted stone.

I agree.

We know H&H has never been friendly to new players, with this new "soak increasing with time system" it is even less friendly and if we want the game to succed being it p2p, imho we need new players.
It is not that new players need us, they just try it and go away, is that we need them to play if we dont want to be alone in an empty world in some months.

How? Why?

if he's as far out as he claims (Hours away in real life?) Then the "fresh" spawn had to have walked that far too and that seems unlikely. Either the guy isn't a fresh spawn or OP isn't as far out as he thinks.....

I think the big issue was just the centralized spawn area. It meant that newbies had no breathing room from griefers and any that are still within a short distance of that area are still being griefed.

it might clash with the concept but making part of the spawn area a safe zone for anyone under 3k lp would fix the problem
