what if, instead of catapults, we get "protected rams", where there's kind of a metal roof OVER the ram, and while the players are using it, it gives them some protection from archers in towers. This way, raiders can still reach the walls with a battering ram and start destroying it, and defending archers still can shot anyone outside the defenses of the ram, and try to damage the ram and those using it.

Something like that:

What's stopping players from building a cheap watchtower outside someone's base so they can snipe over their now useless wall?

A claim larger than their wall.

And who said it would be cheap to build?
Not to mention adding in 'drying time'.

Jackwolf wrote:"watch" tower typically means a tall slender building from which you can actually see a great deal from. otherwise it would just be a guard tower, and only useful for defense.

This! I think that, to make a guard tower, it would require the same amount of mats as the first cornerpost of a brick wall + min time of 24h to dry, and can only be built on Bwalls, after the first bwall corner post was made!

For the roofed ram I'm imagining, it would require 10 bars of metal at min! This would prevent mass attack of roofed rams!

Guard towers - being that they're made for guarding - should not be possible to build, except in claims you have permission to build in. Perhaps that would reduce the abuse possibilities for towers.

Siege towers, while we're on the subject of siege... what do y'all think? And if they are destroyed, they collapse and drop the people in them, injuring them.
"...the dungeon and shackles are already at my threshold to show me here and now my eternal disgrace. Only you can work the miracle to make life possible for a soul so imperiled by doubt, O Atoner for all, exalted beyond saying." - St. Gregory of Narek, Book of Lamentations, Prayer 1.

I think that using guard towers to attack people's bases seems to be an abuse of why the tower would be added into the game (for defensive purposes). They should have a ridiculously long drying time, say a week or something to avoid this. Any active bases will take the tower down quickly, but if it's inactive building the guard tower would be pointless anyway. I think a cheap variant should not cost metal so they can be used early game. Villages will finally have their pincers. :P

I used to love the danger of someone being able to snipe over your walls, it added an element that the game is now missing. ;/
