But I can do that without an idol or without any claim at all, in fact I'd argue that 99.9% of the roads out there are completely unclaimed so I don't understand how extending my claim for roads is a benefit.

Port to village idol would create 100% safe bidirectional travel.
Just No. Bad bad mechanic.

It wouldn't, if we're using the resource example you still need to initially create a road to there from your village and if you want to port back to your idol from that location you'd need to extend your claim all the way there too. Unless it is acre clay or soil I see absolutely no reason why many people would even build a wall there at all.

Mostly this suggestion was meant to improve inter-village travel within your walls so if it could instead be done within a certain limit from your village idol that would also be acceptable for me. Although, I still don't see what the big deal about being able to put your hearth fire in a different location than your village would be. Would this offer a 100% safe method of travel? Yeah, I guess but only to one location and only if you move your hearth fire and only if you claim to the spot you want to travel back from.

+1 for village port while on the village claim itself

I kind of like the idea of being able to port to your idol if on your village claim. But I think a range would have to be applied. Large enough for bigger villages but not so large you could string long lines of authority objects just to have quick ports.

Yeah this is my only issue.

As long as there is a reasonable maximum range, I like this idea- if it is infinite range then it will just be abused for more super-grid jumping.

Yeah, Jorb mentioned wanting to work on fast travel and traing a patch or two ago. But something needs to be done, road signs aren't cutting it. They are tedious to make, bi-directional danger, and time consuming.
Some other form of fast travel needs to pop up, as I have yet to even visit any of my friends who live 7+ hours away from me, the game already feels pretty barren enough with how large it is.

I'm fine with current fast travel mechanics. What I need is rafts so I can actually use wagon to move trade goods across supergrids.

Those HF <=> Idol teleport kills all logistics. Wagons? Carts? Nah, we don't need them, all we need is 1 (2) characters. Village territory not a limit here at all.

See above quote, I will ask you though what you're doing with regards to resource gathering that you use either a wagon or a cart? Instead of just a road and a wheelbarrow? Or a road and a boat? Nice try though.
