Not entirely true. Random encounters, yes. But if you're out hunting bears on melee, you'll need armor. Or when the siege fixes come up, if you're *defending*, be it a ram or your home, you'll probably want to wear a plate.

This wouldn't make armor useless and people would just wear what's faster.

This would make armor situational, and a tactical choice.

I would always wear nothing when fighting other players because of the ability to disengage if things started going badly. Running is a significant part of combat, or do you think everyone just stands still and fights eachother?

I know. You won't stand many sword cleaves without any form of armor, though. And it's greater stamina consumption what is being proposed, not slower speed. If you need to run, they'll run as fast as you and probably land the necessary attacks to finish the job before running out of stamina.

Also, there could be new attacks that gives a slow debuff to prevent people disengaging at will. Something like a 'hamstring' attack that slows someone down. That would be enough to disencourage the no armor technique.

Make multiple buffing/debuffing moves. Would make deck construction more than it is now, and would also make group fighting more diverse in the sense some people will run support characters.

That is the end result wanted right? Instead of just ganksquads, actual organized wars/combat/raids where both attacker and defender are in a push and pull stance until one side can out maneuver/tactic the other?

Speed is stronger than every combat stat in the game, and certainly stronger than some armor class.

+1 to this sort of thing. I really like the idea of hamstring, even on animals. I even more like the idea of say, tanks with tower shields who can use defensive manuvers on others that allow them to get in extra attacks if attacked, support characters like bards who can provide benefits or detriments on a single target, or everyone on a single screen, which can mean hurting your allies or helping your foes if the battle gets to pitched and starts pushing towards the support characters encampment. In general, I would like for their to be a lot more people and playstyles that can be made useful in a war.

I wonder how many of the people here have actual combat experience in-game, and actually understand the dynamics old haven combat had (There hasn't been many group fights this world that weren't lop-sided as fuck).

Bring back slings and we'll see how eager people would be to run around with 0 AC.

Eeeh can you even stand 1 cleave from an average top faction/raider fighter, q1XX+ weapon and 400+++ str? Let's say at least 1k+ cleave.
